What the electric lock does

The electric lock (E-Lock) is an add-on for swing gate motors. It locks the gate leaf to the post when the gate is closed, replacing the stop plate supplied with the motor kit.

• Firmly closed: strong wind or someone pushing will not rattle the gate or force it open
• More secure: the leaf is much harder to prise or pull open
• Easier on the motor: the motor arms no longer take the constant force of wind or pushing

How it works

• The lock body is fixed to the gate leaf frame
• The receiver and pin are fixed to the gate post
• When the gate closes, the lock catches the pin and holds the gate
• When you give an open command, the control box briefly powers the lock to release the pin, then the motor opens the gate

The LIFE GE UNI 24R DL2 control box has a 12 V output for the electric lock. Your installer switches this function on in the settings menu during installation. If the control box is replaced or reset, the installer must switch it on again, otherwise the lock will not release.

Parts in the kit

No bolts or screws are included, because every gate needs different fixings. Your installer chooses the right ones for your gate.

Correct installation

• The lock and receiver must be at the same height and in line with the motor arm
• On gates that open outwards (push-to-open), the lock is fitted on the outside of the gate
• The gate must close fully so the lock catches the pin firmly. If it does not, the installer adjusts the motor's closing position

Alignment and closing adjustments should be done by a technician. A misaligned lock can leave the gate closed but unlocked, or stop it from opening.

Daily use

• Use the remote or push button as normal; the lock releases and locks by itself
• You may hear a "click" from the lock as the gate starts to open. This is normal
• After the gate closes, push it gently: if it does not move, it is locked
• Do not pull or push hard on the gate while it is locked

In a power cut

During a power cut the lock may still be holding the pin. Releasing the motor arms with the release key may therefore not be enough to open the gate.

• If the control box has a backup battery, the gate and lock will still work for a limited number of cycles
• If the gate will not move by hand after releasing the motors, do not force or prise it. You could damage the lock, the pin and the gate leaf

At handover, ask the technician how your gate opens during a power cut, and whether there is a pedestrian gate or another way in.

Basic troubleshooting

Care and maintenance

• Monthly: check that the lock and receiver bolts are tight and the lock still lines up with the receiver
• Keep the pin and its slot clean of dust and insects
• Do not spray oil or put grease into the electrical parts of the lock
• Check the cable for cracks, pinching or rodent damage
• Every 6 months: have a technician check the whole gate system, including the lock

Safety

• Keep hands and fingers away from the pin and receiver while the gate is moving
• Do not let children play near the gate
• Do not modify or rewire the lock yourself
